Picnic waste display
A waste and recycling display for West Berkshire Council.
Have you ever thought about what happens to the remains of your packed lunch or picnic when you put them in the bin?
This exterior display describes the recycling processes for five materials from a typical packed lunch box:
- plastic bottles
- drinks cans
- paper and card
- fruit and veg waste
- plastic bags
It uses bold graphics and large, eye-catching resin sculptures to show how each of these ‘waste’ items can be recycled into new products, or reused in different ways. It explains how recycling is a sustainable process both economically and in terms of resource management and explains the importance of reducing levels of greenhouse gases.
Labeled holes on each side of the display allow visitors to ‘post’ their rubbish into individual bins located inside the structure. These are then collected by the Council’s contractor on a regular basis.
The structure is made from exterior grade plywood fixed to a softwood frame on concrete footings. Each side of the hexagonal display measures approx. 3x3 metres.
